General rule is loading the higher % of the trailer weight slightly forward of the axle. The trailers tongue weight must be 10-15% of the entire loaded trailer weight. 500 lb tongue weight for a 5,000 lb loaded trailer. If you tow regularly get a full sized truck or SUV, a 1500 or 150 minimum. 2500 or 250 is a safer choice for towing over 5000 lbs. Lastly if your towing don’t drive like your not, keep the speed down.
